In an unusual twist, Hawaiian Gardens resident Mary Lou Landis has apparently dropped her plans to seek a seat on the city council, after confirming on Wednesday of last week to Hews Media Group-Community News that she would indeed be a candidate in the upcoming November 5th campaign.

Last week, HMG-CN interviewed Landis via telephone, and she indicated that she “would be a candidate for the Hawaiian Gardens City Council” and even went as far as stating that her main “focus would be on Senior Citizen services.”

Landis, on speaker phone at HMG-CN offices said during the conversation, “how did you guys find out, I was going down tomorrow to file papers.”

The conversation was heard by two HMG-CN interns and Publisher Brian Hews

After an article appeared in last week’s edition on Friday, Landis texted Publisher Brian Hews over the weekend informing him that she would “not be a candidate” and that the article was “a mistake.”

Landis recently moved into a mobile home park in Hawaiian Gardens, thus meeting the legal requirement of establishing residency in a jurisdiction as “required by a candidate.” She had previously been a community relations director for a local medical facility that is based in Hawaiian Gardens.
